Shibu Bhaskar, naturalist at Marari Beach

A naturalist in Paradise!

"By non verbal communication I talk to wild animals"... While in Kerala, at Marari, don't miss a guided tour with Shibu Bhaskar, extarordinary naturalist at the Marai Beach and talented photographer with always a lot of stories to share...

A man passionate about Nature

As a child Shibu was interested in nature and all of its wonderful creations. He started sketching all animals that he saw in his surroundings. At  age15, he held his first exhibition of his paintings on nature and wildlife
which has received recognition. In 2006, he had the opportunity to work as a naturalist at CGH, where he still works.

No typical day at Marari Beach

Shibu is the Chef naturalist at the Marari Beach hotel in Kerala. His team is comprises of two other naturalists, Mr.Jijo & Ms.Jayalakshmi. The entire Marari Beach team is happy and responsible to protect the environment and to  provide a different experiences to the guest.
The nature of Shibu’s work doesn’t prescribe a typical schedule. “Some days, I start my work by bird watching with guests at 6.00 am. Other days usually I am with guests by 9am.”

Guiding the guests at Marari Beach

The Shibu’s “signature tour” for guests is a Nature Walk in the property where guests will find the treasure of flora and fauna. In spite of being a beach resort , the property houses more than 200
species of indigenous trees and more than 250 species of herbs & shrubs. Marari Beach boasts of 89 species of birds, 97 species of butterflies and 30 species of dragonflies & damselflies.

The man who talk to animals

Shibu has a good relationship with wild animals. “By non verbal communication I talk to wild animals” he assures us. Danger has presented itself several times to Shibu while he was on the presence of wild animals.
Once, in Periyar while photographing an elephant: “I was sitting about 17 meters near a mother elephant and Calf. The Mother Elephant noticed me but she was comfortable with my position. Unfortunately, there were two other photographers behind me who made the elephant uncomfortable. The elephant chased them but I was caught in between them. I miraculously escaped from the pounding legs of the Mother Elephant”.

Shibu’s hobbies

Besides nature and environment Shibu loves travel. “I travel very often as I am fond of the Western Ghats. It is like visiting my ancestral home”. He is also a great photographer of Wildlife and he is planning to publish a book on the birds, butterflies, plants and dragonflies of Marari Beach.
