Morning in the City
Start off your day at the famous Libreria Lello e Irmão, often considered one of the most beautiful bookstores in the world and often known as “the Harry Potter bookstore” as it is rumored that the store inspired JK Rowling, Rua das Carmelitas 144. Then head down the street to take in the amazing architecture of the local churches. Some to add to your list include:
- São Francisco Church
- Clérigos Church and tower
- Cathedral de Porto
Set off towards the river to check out the Dom Luís Bridge. Created by an apprentice to Gustave Eiffel, the metal arch bridge has become an attraction you can’t miss in Porto.
A picturesque lunch in the market
Take a walk down the river to Ribeira Square and then grab some lunch at A Grade, located on Rua de São Nicolau.
Continue your walk around the Zona Ribeirinha after lunch. Some things to stop at along the way include Casa do Infante and Palacio da Bolsa.
Explore the Wine country
Next on your journey, go to Vila Nova de Gaia to check out a winery just outside the city center but worth the trip. Taylor’s Port Wine Cellars, one of the oldest Port houses, offers tours of its vineyard along with a short wine tasting for just 5€.

For dinner, Casinha Sao Joao is a great Tapas restaurant with an authentic taste of Porto culture. Located right on the water, it is an excellent place to sit back and enjoy a meal after a long day.
