Holbox Island : sand and zen

Holbox Island is located at the northern tip of the Yucatan peninsula, in the Quintana Roo state of Mexico.
Beware, the Mayan language x is to be pronounced "ch" !

An island beyond time in the Yucatan

35km long and 1km wide, a strip of land, or rather sand, only separated from the mainland by the lagoon Yalahán. The small village of Holbox is mainly inhabited by fishermen whom travel by golf carts,  cyclo, motorbike, bicycle and by foot of course, since there is no road but only sandy paths. Hotels such as houses are built as wood cabins following the local tradition of creating a homogeneous, a genuine and welcoming atmosphere.

The island of pirates

It is said that pirates and local Mayan girls married each others and had children on the island. Eight or more generations have followed and some inhabitants considered themselves related to these couples. A regional pride!

Tempting Experience on Holbox Island

We come here to rest, for nature, for sport ... but some attractions are particularly popular as diving with whale sharks or fishing.

You can rent one of these golf cars to cross the island, admiring the landscape and breathe the fresh air of the sea. Or maybe you prefer a boat trip to go to the Isla Pájaros to Cabo Catoche at Punta Mosquito ... Or just watch dolphins and flamingos.

To the east it's kilometers of beaches and countless pelicans. To the west, fine sand and the small island Pasión

You will feel good on this island, free and without obligation, zen, in harmony with nature.

Small things to know

Beware of chaquistes, small and ferocious mosquitoes, which unfortunately are resistant to all anti-mosquito lotion. It seems that the only thing that can protect you is the baby-oil.

The island being partly cut off from civilization, the better is to relax ... there is no bank on the island, so remember to have money with you, pesos or dollars, because the trade still exists! And not worry about communication: there is an Internet café!

Near the Pasion Island

A  mere 20 minute boat drive from the island of Holbox will connect you to the small Pasion Island. It is the typical desert island where we all dreamed to wreck (if possible accompanied by the person of his heart ...) to get lost, or seek for a pirate treasure ...
